Echo and the Bunnymen – The Killing Moon

Echo and the Bunnymen

Echo and the Bunnymen are still releasing records, though they are best known from a number of releases in the early and mid 80′s. Their album Ocean Rain, released in 1984, included this hit, which was later featured in the movie Donnie Darko.

Formed in 1980 with the acquisition of drummer Pete de Freitas, the original lineup of Echo and the Bunnymen played together for 8 years, then disbanded in 1988 when vocalist Ian McCulloch left the band. The Bunnymen continued on with a new singer, but failed to release a popular album.

In 1997, Ian McCulloch rejoined the band, and has continued to tour and perform with original member Will Sargeant. Bass player Les Pattinson then left the band for a second time, but we still got Ian and Will writing music, who have both been at the core of much of the Bunnymen’s success over the last 20 years.

Sidenote: I like referring to a band as ‘The Bunnymen.’
