G Love and the Special Sauce – Hot Cookin’
These guys love playing music … and shooting hoops … and cold beverages. Sounds like my kind of band. Formed in 1992 in Boston, G Love has been touring and recording relentlessly, releasing 8 albums, the last 3 being released by Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records.
The connection to everyone’s favorite surfer turned songster doesn’t end there. G Love collaborated with Jack Johnson on the song Rodeo Clowns, which both bands released on their own albums.
Yes, the singer guitarist and harmonica player who fronts G Love, Garrett Dutton III, spent one year at Skidmore College before dropping out and moving to Boston. He had all the makings of a soon-to-be professional banker – his dad was an accomplished businessman and he attended Germantown Friendship School outside Philadephia. That wasn’t to be, and now Garret routinely creates a unique sound, fusing blues, funk, hip hop, and classic rock. Kind of like a more up-tempo Fat Freddy’s Drop.
