Rhymefest, born Che Smith, has been all over movie soundtracks, TV soundstracks, and other people’s albums. He signed with Mark Ronson’s sub-label Allido Records in 2003, though courted by Kanye West at the time as well. He has collaborated with Mark Ronson, Kanye, Citizen Cope, Carl Thomas, ‘Ol Dirty Bastard, and Mario. In this track, he samples Cope’s Bullet and a Target. This is one of my favorite Citizen Cope songs in addition to Son’s Gonna Rise. Good choice Che.

In collaborating with Kanye on Jesus Walks, Che co-won the grammy for best rap song. Props. Let’s hope he doesn’t also freak out if he doesn’t win the grammy for best album.
